Give Me An Album Or Song To Listen To

give me an album or song to listen to and i'll give my opinion on it.

background about my music taste; i love shoegaze, skramz/screamo, emo (90s and early 2000s emo, though ptv and all those other bands are great!), slowcore, r&b, rap and a ton more. my music palette is pretty big.

i'll recommend some songs for you to listen to and maybe give me your opinion on them.

chet baker - the thrill is gone

whirr - under the same name

flooding - salt of the earth

faetooth - strange ways

title fight - trace me onto you

black smurf - could've been worse

ichiko aoba - iam pod

lil peep - skyscrapers

bones - ifyouregoingtospew,spewintothis

would love to hear some opinions of some of these songs

have you listened to the new slowdive album?

yes, I listened to it. i was a bit let down that they released so many singles before the full album came out. however, i really liked the indie direction they took with this release. it added a unique and fresh sound to them, with elements of dream pop mixed in. not their best album, but not their worst either.

chet & bones are great. try out white lies and battle tapes (both bands)

i've only just recently got into chet baker. his melancholic singing mixed with the soothing jazz just does it for me. i have been trying to find another artist that sounds similar to him but i can't seem to do so. it's revolutionary and completely changed the way i view the genre. his effect is like The Weeknd's to me, as it completely changes how i view a genre. no one can replicate the sound.

i listened to both of the bands you recommended most played song. i definitely liked the white lies song a bit more. both songs are great, though! everything is exceptional to me on the 'farewell to the fairground' song. all the way from the vocals to the bass guitar and the drums, which is something i value a lot when i look for music i like. i will definitely be visiting the 'to lose my life' album by them at some point.
'the last resort & spa' by battle tapes is a good song in its own right. it just didn't amaze me. in my opinion, it's just a little too 'pop' for my liking. i can appreciate the vocals though, incredible voice.

thank you so much for the recommendation!

of course. if you like white lies, you might like editors, milky chance, and astronaut (check for "no place for lovers"). kellermensch is an instrumental-heavy band that i can't really describe the music of.

for jazzy music like chet, billie holiday, ella fitzgerald, louis armstrong, frank sinatra, nina simone. there's this certain type of jazz that mixes r&b that i think you might be looking for - i know i don't like "jazz" either unless it has those melancholic vocals

and i'm really glad you liked white lies - they've been my favourite band for half a decade now, and their albums definitely constantly rise in quality (as i try not to fall apart, friends, and big tv are my top 3 albums by them in that order - 2022, 2017, and 2013 respectively). battle tapes is definitely a hit or miss and it's more on the electronic side of synthpop, but roosevelt you might like for synth

i loved listening to this album! i loved the vulnerability, the complex songwriting, the lyrics, and the variety of instruments used. the vulnerability within the delivery and lyrics is some of the best i've heard. combine that with the angsty drumming and the very emo guitar riffs and you've got yourself an intimate record that almost anyone could relate to. this album kind of gave me a glimpse of william bonney and title fight at times, which is a very good thing in my opinion.
my favorite tracks were 'hot & informed' and 'eat the fucking snow'. i liked 'hot & informed' because i can resonate with it. my interpretation of this song is about meeting people at a point in your life where you aren't satisfied with yourself. when you're dissatisfied with yourself, you can tend to push people away and not want to make a connection with anyone new. i've struggled with this a big part of my life and i still suffer the consequences of being distant from people to this day.
overall i loved this album and appreciate every aspect of what it gave me! i will give their other music a listen at some point.

thank you so much for the recommendation!
