I love getting clothes from my grandma but she is also a nicotine addict doused in perfume living in a mouldy old house by the beach.
As much as I love second-hand clothes (especially from her, since she heavily influenced by sense in style growing up), Mum cannot stand it, especially from her. She can't stand the smell, and to be fair I get that, as well.
This particular item I got from her are these wide-legged faux leather pants. They're really nice! The fabric has a bronze-y effect wherin it appears to be dark brown initially, but becomes more bronze-gold when the area is stretched, excessively toughed, etc., almost as if it were painted in layers. It's also covered in zips and buckes, and overall looks really cool. The fits a bit weird but nothing I can't adjust.
However.
This item has a particularly pungent smell, probably from sitting at the bottom of her wardrobe for several years. I've gotten things from her before, but generally, after wearing and washing them repeatedly over several years, the smell tends to fade. However, since they are "leather", plus all of the metal on them, they would be near impossible to put in the wash.
Any advice on how I can get the smell out without significantly damaging them???

Maybe toss them in a garbage bag with a fuck ton of baking soda for a while? Or coffee grounds, but that might cause a different problem.

It's fine XD in the end I wound up not doing anything, and the smell kinda faded with time. Still, I'll keep your advice in mind the next time I'm in a similar situation lol thanks!
