It's been a long time, and to shake off the cobwebs… Firstly hello again WiPPLES, I must confess that I have had this review written for about a month now, but just didn’t feel it was up to snuff. But I guess sometimes you just have to put what you have out there. Maybe I will be lucky and others won’t think this falls flat, but let’s get into the review!
This was the first of the two films we watched while trying to get a time to watch Cocaine Bear (boy will that review be just pawful… it has a LOT of bear puns)
There seems to be a lot of buzz around this movie, everybody has seen it and everybody seems to love it, though many I have to assume love it ironically! Despite that I am still going to do my usual plot breakdown and synopsis, because I am a hack and want to fill out my reviews…
In the buzzing metropolis of New Hive City, Barry B Benson, an ambitious young bee with a flair for comedy, finds himself on the verge of a monumental change. Tired of the same old drone life, he decides to take a leap of faith and embark on a honey of an adventure!
Barry, voiced by Jerry Seinfeld, discovers that the world beyond the hive is more than just a bee-line from flower to flower. He stumbles upon a world filled with bee-dazzling wonder, including Vanessa Bloome, a kind-hearted human florist played by Renée Zellweger.
As Barry ventures into the human world, he learns about the bitter-sweet relationship between bees and humans. A honey-stirring conspiracy that humans are using bees for their honey. Barry, with the help of his best friend Adam, a bee with a distaste for Barry’s adventures, decides to take the humans to court! In the bee-ginning, it's a real buzz, but the bee lobby has brought in a ringer. He goads them into violence to discredit their case, and then returns to court after the affair brave enough to flaunt his diaper kink (he really does roll up in a giant padded diaper and man sized baby toy…. And I know you can find a lot of stuff in NYC at the drop of a hat but I doubt you’d find a XXXL Adult sized baby bouncer, which means he already owned that shit. Maybe since he used it in court he was hoping he could write it off in his taxes?)
The courtroom drama is a laugh-out-loud affair as Jerry and his legal team bring the house down with their witty arguments and bee-havior, such as aggressively questioning the musician Sting and badgering Ray Leota (he really has a rough time in these movies we watch).
As the case unfolds, the world realizes that bees and humans need each other, and they must work together to protect the environment. The verdict is a stinging twist, as both sides agree to a pollen-tially sweet solution that promotes harmony between bees and humans.
"Bee Movie: A Hive of Hilarity" is a rib-tickling, wing-flapping adventure filled with bee-musing puns, bee-dazzling visuals, and a bee-lievable message about the importance of saving our planet. It's a shame it sidelined by just how horny Barry is for a human woman and that she seems to reciprocate some of those feelings. Jerry himself has joked about this aspect of the film, saying it was unintentional. But I don’t want to be a buzz-kill; join Jerry and his hive as they create a buzz that's un-bee-lievable!
Up Next: Cocaine Bear!
