The girl with bangs by Zadie Smith ˖⁺‧₊˚✦

Today in English we read the short story, The girl with bangs by Zadie Smith, and I. loved. it. ❤︎₊ ⊹

So... basically, it was about this girl with bangs (°ロ°) ! who the narrator was interested in and eventually dated even though she was dating some french guy. eventually the french guy confronts the narrator and they talk out their differences just to approach the girl with another man ∑(O_O;). In the end, the french guy and the girl with bangs get married just for the french guy to cheat on her.

Everyone in my class was talking about how they disliked it and how much of a slob she was (she literally took over a study room because she filled it with all her stuff/strash (´ ω `♡)) They especially didn't like the ending where when the two people caught her cheating with the third guy that she just shaved her head in "rebellion". In that part, I kind of took it in a more metaphorical sense. As in she took what everyone found attractive (her bangs) and got rid of them just to settle down with the man she presumably loved. Everyone was just like, "why would she do that", "that's so dumbb" (°ㅂ°╬) when it is just a representation for change, not exactly literal

Although the main girl was kinda,,,,, questionable, I really connected with the narrator and her relationship with the girl with bangs. The narrator is never explicitly called a girl but she does mention things that boys would never think of. For example, the narrator says they uses all the boy was of getting close to the girl and that this is what it felt like to be a boy. Especially when nobody ever questions the narrators relationship with the girl with bangs on a basis of gender. Everyone in the class was really confused on the gender of the narrator and even argued that it was a mlm situation, lol

To me, this is what it feels like for me to try and talk to girls in a romantic sense. I'm bisexual and have had been really questioning my gender/gender presentation. So, this short story was way beyond "wow, this couple is so gross for cheating", it was " wow,,, this is how other people feel too?? Σ(□_□)"

It really helps when you imagine the main girl as a baddie with a wolf cut and curtain bangs (the drawing inspiration I got from this is ungodly.) The narrator specifically mentions that bang girl is the type to own only two bras, both being grey and that her room is a mess.... So she's literally my type (❤ω❤)

I would really recommend reading this short story... the way this short story validated me was just insane. I love the girl with bangs and will totally being making art of her all week now (♡°▽°♡)
