tf is metalcore

I am a music fan (clearly) but wtf is metalcore. When I hear "core" I think like "the aesthetic of (whatever was before it)" bc thats what everything else is. But how do you have "aesthetic of metal" music??????????? I get death, alt, groove, all those genres. Because its a description. But metalcore??????? what
