Periwinkle Folds
The velvety cloth brushed against my palms as I drew my hands over the silver embroidery dancing over the nylon on the outer folds like constellations in the night sky. Layers and layers of light periwinkle draped over each other created the perfect wavy look, like waves gently lapping on the sand, spreading against the coast's edge the way the fabric flared out upon the hardwood floor. With a gentle tugging motion, I dragged down the zip in the back and unrobed the mannequin. I held the now shapeless heap of fabric in my arms as I turned to the narrow full-length mirror mounted on my wall. The light makeup I had applied complimented my ash-brown hair. I unscrewed a light pink tube of lip gloss and pulled out the wand with a soft pop, running the pink, gloss-coated applicator on my lips to give it a light pink sheen. My hair was layered, fanning out on the sides in small locks of hair, fluffing my hair up, I smiled as it got more messy and choppy. Just how I liked it.
Wearing the dress, I felt stunning. It sat snugly on my torso and waist but fanned out under my waist into a blooming skirt, a flowy piece of fabric was draped over my chest, giving it a draping, waterfall appearance. Running my hands over my dress, I felt the folds of the dress bending under my touch but springing back up as soon as my hands left the fabric. As I did a small spin, the edge of my dress danced along with me, the folds of my dress following the spiraling motion I was moving in. My hands were splayed as the shimmery mesh on the outer layer of the outfit fluttered in the movement. My smile was wide as I looked at myself in the mirror again, seeing a new light in myself. I was graceful, delicate, airy and I loved it. I loved seeing myself in these periwinkle folds.
