I recently bought Marilyn Manson's "Antichrist Superstar" on CD, and I really love it ಥ‿ಥ. However when I was listening for the first time, one song, 'Cryptorchid,' really caught my attention. Here are the lyrics, along with my thoughts on their meaning (´ε` )♡:
Each time I make my mother cry
An angel dies and falls from heaven
When the boy is still a worm it's hard to
Learn the number seven
But when they get to you
It's the first thing that they do
Each time I look outside
My mother dies I feel my back is changing shape
When the worm consumes the boy it's never
Considered rape
When they get to you
Prick your finger it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread its wings
The time has come for bitter things
The song repeats the phrase "prick your finger, it is done" five times which doubles up in the song "Antichrist Superstar," to make a total of seven mentions. I think this pattern of numbers, three and seven, carries deep spiritual significance.
The line "The time has come for bitter things" is a call to confront challenges and leave weakness behind. The transformation from the "worm" stage suggests stepping up to life's trials or an awakening of sorts or maybe even the worms transformation into the antichrist superstar ┐(´•_•`)┌ ?
"Cryptorchid" is an illness found in dogs, causing them to be sterile. In a human context this could represent a sense of impotence or the inability to change a problem. It might also be a refrence to the challenges of transitioning into adulthood.
ALSO the opening line, "Each time I make my mother cry an angel dies and falls from heaven," might be delving into a young boy's indoctrination into Christianity. It does resonate with the commandment to honor one's parents...
"When the boy is still a worm, it's hard to learn the number seven" shows that a child's capacity for self-discovery is hindered by being kept in a naive, controlled state, detached from individual thought. The concept of "Cryptorchid" as a missing aspect reflects the suppression of authentic personality, paralleling a metaphorical loss of identity.
In essence, the song exposes how society imposes beliefs on impressionable minds before they can form independent viewpoints.
Anyway bye. (づ ◕‿◕ )づ
