i'm going insane because i like all kinds of music (i mean... literally. i listen to EVERYTHING) and i dress differently every day and often change the way i do makeup but i don't fit in any category.
the other night i was at this party and i came home crying because i felt like an outsider- happens to me everywhere. talking w a metalhead? i don't like heavy metal enough. talking w a swiftie? i don't know taylor swift enough. talking w someone who likes reggaeton? i don't know enough to hold a conversation. happens all the time. i'm going crazy.
i don't fit into any category, i'm always missing something.
i'll write a decent entry about this some time. even finding a category for this is hard.

I totally relate to what you’re saying. I think we should take pride in having a variety of music interests. It shows we aren’t performative in what we choose to enjoy (example: not only liking goth, punk, or emo things in order to feel validated). Sometimes I feel lonely because I don’t have any friends with similar interests to me, but there is so much more to like and relate to within other people than just shared interests. If they have the same values as you and you get along with them, that’s what matters most. Hope this helps!

maybe this isn't what you want to hear, but you don't have to fit into a category. if anything, i think it's actually really cool that you listen to a lot of music & have a large range of styles you like. we all have more to us than niche aesthetics and styles, the people who are all consistency all the time are probably more varied than they're letting on.
having a set style and easy to describe taste is only good for being categorized. the range you have is something special, you just gotta find people who can see that.
