Okay, I just need to get this out of the way before fall starts, and I don't think I'll have much more time before September starts, which is when I start my fall playlist.
So, for those who didn't know, fall is the most beloved season in America (on average). Well, I'm here to say it isn't (for me, at least). Now I don't irrationally hate fall, I understand its place in the cycle of the seasons and an endless summer wouldn't be fun. In fact, at the end of this post, I will highlight what I like about fall.
What I don't like (greatest dislike to least dislike):
1. Declining Daylight
Probably the best thing about summer is the fact that days are much longer, and you can usually find a time to soak in the sun. Unfortunately, this cannot be said for fall. As total daylight shortens, people get busier and busier, to the point where sometimes I will wake up and it's mostly dark, and then come back home to darkness. However, this is more of an issue of late fall rather than early fall. I just love sunlight, so when it starts to go away, it makes days less fun, warm, and pleasant.
2. The cold
Again, more of a late fall problem. I just don't like the cold. Yes, I'm skinny, so it affects me more. I really can't elaborate on this one, I just don't prefer the cold. Daylight and the cold together cause me (and many others) to feel more tired during this season.
3. Fall is the season of death
Yes, the leaves changing colors and falling can be quite beautiful, but it never turns out the way it does in pictures. The leaves typically only stay like this for about two weeks max and then go away. Then you're left with big piles of crunchy, dead, brown leaves, which in my opinion, are ugly. Fall foliage isn't really appealing to me. A lot of creatures start to hibernate at this time, and during late fall it can feel pretty lifeless at times due to the changes in season and temperature. No, I don't really like bugs, but I miss the summer cicadas every time.
4. The holiday season is stressful
Having three holidays take up the entirety of fall isn't fun. Out of all of them, I think I like Halloween the most. Thanksgiving is fine, but all of the events that occur during these times are annoying, as it adds to holiday stress as you now have plays, activities, etc. to attend. Although Christmas isn't technically a part of the fall season, Christmas ads, goods, etc. can be found as early as the end of October, so its lead-up sales, activities, etc. count.
5. Drab colors
Sorry, but I'm not a fan of the colors that are typically put out in department/clothing stores during the fall. Brown is a nice color, but only in moderation. Orange is also not a really nice color in terms of making a full outfit. It also works better in moderation. I usually stick to cream and other off-whites during the fall.
6. Pumpkin spice everything
I'm not really a fan of fall spices. They all blend together weirdly and leave a strange aftertaste in my mouth. They can also sometimes be too spicy. In addition, companies need to stop banking on this seasonal "flavor". It has created some strange and disgusting products.
Also, here's my chart of how I feel about fall (labeled)
What I do Like:
1. The first few weeks of cooler weather are nice
After dealing with the oppressive heat of summer, the cooler weather of fall is a nice respite.
2. Halloween
I would've put Halloween on the other dislike side a couple of years ago, but now that I'm in college, I don't have to deal with what my parents think about Halloween. I'm actually working on my Halloween costume, which I hope to post in October! However, I will say that some people do go overboard with Halloween, and I find the colors and some of the themes associated with it quite tacky.
3. Cozy vibes are cool
It is nice to come back from a cold day into the warm and inviting atmosphere of a comfy room. Cable-knit sweaters with a blanket and some tea is great.
4. Football season
Since I'm attending a college known for its football, I'm excited to partake in the games that will be happening this year. We will see if they live up to the hype.
