misconceptions of xenogenders

through my 24h of being on this site i’ve obviously seen some hate and criticism for xenogenders and people who identify with them, as i do on any other social platform. i’ve noticed a pattern on misconceptions across all of the places i’ve seen these resentments for them.. so i decided to clear them up myself.

if you’re simply here to comment ‘tldr’, grow up.

“xenogenders hurt REAL trans people!”

no they don’t. people who use xenogenders are trans too. if you need help with what being transgender means, here you go:

transgender: an umbrella term that covers all identities outside of society’s binary concepts and rules of gender (basically just male and female), this does include trans people who identify as a binary gender (transmen and transwomen) and non-binary people (though some non-binary people may not class themselves as transgender.)

if you still genuinely believe this, i’d recommend going into what you consider a ‘REAL’ trans person is.

“they make trans people look like a joke!”

in our unaccepting society, trans people practically are still a joke. they always have been, and i doubt they won’t be any time soon.

not only that, this is basically victim blaming. most people who use xenogenders are neurodivergent (yet, its not a requirement) CHILDREN who are trying to find ways to understand and express their gender in ways they feel comfortable. blaming them for the discrimination they experience is unfair. they are victims of transphobia the same way you may be.

you’re gatekeeping gender.

“you can’t identify as a cat/dog/etc.!”

they don’t. xenogenders don’t make you believe you’re a cat or whatever the topic of the xenogender might be. it isn’t required to think that. even if the person using the xenogender may be a therian or another form of otherkin, thats unrelated!

in the same way being ‘a man’ or ‘a woman’ has nothing to do with your body, neither does identifying as a [object/animal]. and honestly, if its really not hurting anyone, it doesn’t matter to you! (especially if you’re a cis person, this is basically trans discourse, get out??? /j /nm)

“you’re just making up genders and pronouns!”

sure we are. the same way ‘man’ and ‘woman’ were made up, how ‘he’ and ‘she’ were made up. all the words i’m using right now were made up. language didn’t just appear one day and it all has a beginning, everything depends on where you grew up, when you grew up, who you were around and everything.

“i’m not going to call someone a cat (or etc.)💀”

you’re just being insensitive. i’m sure they have ‘normal’ pronouns for you to use anyway, if not.. just don’t mention them? don’t talk to them? it’s really just a case of being respectful. anyway, would you say this to a transman asking if you could use he/him and they/them pronouns?

i’m all done now. if you have arguments against me that you’ll put in the comments. don’t bother, i’m not going to argue or debate with you. if you have any constructive criticism on my writing, that’d be greatly appreciated, or want me to go in more depth about a particular topic, tell me politely. bye now!
