Use bandcamp or metal archives to find bands for the love of god
for real. or just ask people who have been a bit longer into ANY genre for recs...
OR at least don't pretend some of the most popular bands in that genre are "ultra underground", it's fine to like them ofc and understand that for somebody who's new it's mindblowing to discover them but i'm turning tail and bolt if somebody tells me again "you probably never heard of this band before..." and then name something like Gorgoroth n shit

Personally im trying to ignore tictok (specifically the bm side of tictok) for this exact reason
I get it if you're barely getting into black metal thrn you're gonna be shocked at all of these cool bands n shit but my point still stands
Plus discovering a new band or artist rather than getting reccomends feels alot more cooler yk?

definetly agreeing with you. i would like if those kids at least could pretend like they care to learn instead of only taking in whatever the algorythm spoonfeeds them but they don't, which makes every run in incredibly frustrating
