homebrew setting

when i was eighteen or nineteen i started making, certainly not my first but at least my most ambitious original setting, for d&d. and folks. it was bad. it was media franchises i liked poorly disguised and frankensteined together even more poorly.

but it had good bones! so over the past couple years ive been idly stripping it down, and i think ive had a breakthrough on how to move forward. im making it gothic and dark and grimdark, as opposed to just doing high fantasy like i thought was ‘required’, tossing in a healthy amount of steampunk and cosmic horror… and im really enjoying how it’s coming out so far! ive managed to keep more ideas from the original than i thought i was gonna end up with, and it’s just been… really nice, to have my creative energy flowing so well. breaking myself away from the stock depictions of elves and dwarves and etc has been very nice as well. once i get a first draft of the basic history of the setting down, maybe i’ll share it here, but for now, just know things are going really good for my brainstorming. :)
