A look into the music I like

Until recently, my SpaceHey profile interests section had an embed to my Spotify playlist. However, the embed didn't exactly fit well in the sidebar, so I have now replaced it with a link to my playlist. I also personalized my profile's wallpaper from the macOS Big Sur aerial view wallpaper in dark mode to a bunch of album covers that you (mostly) can see in my playlist

Although that's fine, I thought maybe I would go into the artists and songs I like the most so you can see what I truly enjoy rather than just a list of songs.

Note: Most of the links in this blog entry are Spotify links, so if you use a different music service, the links may not work. All the songs and artists I linked to should be on YouTube, though.

My absolute favorite artist has to be Lovejoy.

For those of you that don't know, Lovejoy is an indie rock band formed in Brighton, England in 2021. Will Gold, who I think everyone actually knows as Wilbur Soot, is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Joe Goldsmith is the lead guitarist, Mark Boardman is the drummer, and Ash Kabosu is the bassist. They have released three EPs: "Are You Alright?" and "Pebble Brain" in 2021, and "Wake Up & It's Over" in 2023. They have also released some singles: "Knee Deep at ATP, a cover of a Los Campesinos song was released in 2021, and a cover of the Crywank song Privately Owned Spiral Galaxy was featured on "Here You Go, You Do It: A Crywank Covers Compilation".

I don't have a favorite Lovejoy song, because it's too hard to decide. I have a favorite from each EP. For "Are You Alright?", my favorite is "Sex Sells". My favorite from "Pebble Brain" currently is "The Fall", but I think I might change to "Concrete" soon. And my favorite song from "Wake Up & It's Over" is "Portrait of a Blank Slate".

I do have one least favorite Lovejoy song, however, and that's "Cause for Concern" from "Are You Alright?" My reason for this is because it's just so repetitive. Both "verses" are basically identical, the only difference between the choruses are a sort of echo in the second one and a small change of wording in the last, and the bridge is a repeat of a line of the verses three times.

Lovejoy had a rise in popularity with their release of "Call Me What You Like", but I liked Lovejoy months prior to the release of that song. I actually remember the release day of that song. "4GET" by CG5 (we'll get to him later) and "Call Me What You Like" were released on the same day, and I had to choose which one to listen to first. I chose "4GET" first, and they're both great songs, but I say "Call Me What You Like" is better.

Another artist I like a lot is Taylor Swift

I'm assuming most of you know who Taylor Swift is; after all, her Spotify profile says "#2 in the world". If you don't, well that's a surprise, and I'll have you find that info yourself.

Before I found Lovejoy, Taylor Swift was my favorite, and I was a huge "reputation" stan. Later, I also began to like "1989" and "Speak Now". Since I found Lovejoy, I haven't listened to her music as much, but I still do sometimes. If you look in my Liked Songs, there is no "Red (Taylor's Version)", "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)", "Lover", or "Midnights". That's because I own all these albums on vinyl, and I feel like I've listened to these albums so much that I'd probably skip them in my playlist every time if I still had them in there. I've been trying to get Lovejoy as my top artist on Spotify, but they're only at number 4, and Taylor Swift is still taking that top spot at volt.fm.

I do not have a favorite Taylor Swift song, although this is because there's none I really like enough to put in that spot. If you asked me and forced me to give some sort of answer, I'd probably tell you "Vigilante Shit" or "I Know Places". Also, if I ever make a playlist of songs that might have made me a furry, "I Know Places" has a good chance of being on there.

I also don't have a favorite album or least favorite song, but my least favorite album is "folklore". It's sound is too different from the rest of her discography for me to like it.

There's also a very good chance you know who Olivia Rodrigo is.

Before the release of SOUR, the singles she released caused her to be compared to Taylor Swift a lot. However, I think her music is quite different from Taylor Swift's. Literally, listen to "bad idea right?" or "brutal" and I think the difference in sound between the two artists is quite clear.

I'm a really big of "bad idea right?" at the moment, but I also like "jealousy, jealousy" a lot, especially the bridge. I have to say the rest of her music is enjoyable as well.

I couldn't just mention Lovejoy in this article without mentioning Wilbur Soot's solo music.

His most well known song is "Your New Boyfriend", but it's actually third in the series of four songs that are commonly referred to as "The E-Girl Trilogy". The others, "I'm in Love With an E-Girl", "Internet Ruined Me", and "Soft Boy", are also really great. "I'm in Love With an E-Girl" is my favorite, even though I can't relate to it.

He also released "Maybe I Was Boring", which I believe is supposed to be an EP, but is a single 13 minute song on Spotify. The last part/song, "It's All Futile! It's All Pointless!", actually later became a Lovejoy song, albeit with slight modifications.

He released one album solo, "Your City Gave Me Asthma". It's a pretty good album. My favorite song from it is "Jubilee Line", but "Your Sister Was Right" and "Saline Solution" are also pretty good.

I should also note some people don't consider "Soft Boy" to be part of the E-Girl trilogy, but I do as it can't really be categorized as anything else in his discography. Also, Wilbur himself has said that "Soft Boy" is a sequel to "Your New Boyfriend" here.

I said we'll get to CG5, so here he is.

For those who don't know CG5, he makes songs and covers about video games, memes, and more. If you use TikTok, you may have heard his previously viral, "Everybody told me that I sound like CG5... probably because I am CG5".

Some of my favorite songs featuring him are "I See a Dreamer", "MUFFIN", "Lonely King", and "Give a Little". But of course, I also like most of his songs. But definitely not all. Usually, he makes songs on very specific topics (like the Dream SMP or Stranger Things), and you may not like the song if you don't know or like what it's about. Honestly, I'm not really sure if that applies to me.

Unfortunately, he also gets a lot of hate for "ruining memes" with songs such as "Only in Ohio", which I honestly don't find as too bad of a song, although I don't think I've listened to it since it released in December 2022. Apparently, he's even made merch about this.

There's a whole lot of songs from other people in my playlist, but with the exception of a couple, they only have a song or two that I like out of everything, so they weren't important enough for me to mention here.

If you have any different music that you like, leave a comment talking about your favorite artists, and maybe leave a link to some of your favorites from them on Spotify or YouTube, especially if you think they're similar to what I like. And although I mentioned quite a few people in this blog entry, I recommend checking out my playlist to see what else I like. And if there's somebody I really enjoy in the future, I'll make sure to add them here.
