Yo! Feel like I should give a more detailed introduction for those who need it. I'm Patrick, known online as Patrick, born in the Patrick, molded by it. I'm a primarily digital artist. My preferred software is unironically MS Paint. I know, big shocker given that I'm using this site, but I don't use it for the aesthetics.
I'm big on pseudo-mainstream Shonen anime I don't read or watch stuff like Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer, nor am I into classics like Naruto or One Piece (though I have been looking into the latter). I've always been the type of guy to live for the extremes; pioneers in their niches that give a sense that this is not something that was being made before it. Stuff like Dragon Ball, Hunter x Hunter, and- most importantly of all- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
JoJo holds a special place in my heart as my favorite media franchise of all time, and I have it to thank for so many things. Over the last year and a half, I've been working on a project. Something that I'm proud of, and it embarrasses me to say that it's a JoJo fan comic. Despite how cringe-y it sounds coming out of my mouth to say it, it's near solely responsible for my exponential growth as an artist, writer, and overall person. Genuinely don't know what I'd do without it.
As for music, it's a similar story. A couple years back, summer of 2018, I started using Spotify. Now, lemme preface this by saying that my music taste up to this point was Minecraft parodies and vaguely influenced by what my mom used to put on. I listen to 3 rap songs maximum, and claim a moral high-ground over anybody who listened to mainstream shit. Now, out of those 3 rap songs, I get recommended two songs that were pretty damn good. Sound is Vibration by Atmosphere and Escargot by Jarv. These two tracks were a start, but I wasn't there just yet.
Couple months later, it's October, and a podcast I liked, SuperMegaCast, hosts an episode with two guys who were pretty damn funny. I liked it, and it's still my favorite episode to this day. They were rappers, and naturally they promote themselves towards the end and say the albums they'd recommend for people looking to get into them. Couple days later, I'm on a camping trip. Shit's kinda boring, I'm listenin' back to the episode and say 'why the hell not?'.
That shit changed the whole trajectory of my life. Somethin' about it... Ramona... was so beautiful to me. It made me see hip-hop in a whole different light. And it's still my favorite to this day.
I start to talk to this guy- Gran, still a good friend- and he listens to it. We bond over that shit, it's nice. He puts me onto other shit, I start putting other people onto other shit. Fast forward a few years and I got a whole ass catalogue under my belt. It was like a hip-hop pyramid scheme. I made so many friends over the next few years, all of which bonded with me over music.
All of this is to say that hip-hop and JoJo mean a lot to me. That's really all you need to know. Talk to me about music or anime and Imma be all ears. Trust me.
Thanks to the one person who'll read this. Even if that person doesn'tm it was nice being able to write about this stuff.
