Thoughts about thoughts pt2

I wanted to include a story that has an important life lesson to me for my first blog ever, so absolutely go read the part one but its not necessary.

Once when I was talking with my mom, she imparted this wisdom to me, something that she learned in therapy which is that when we as people are growing up in childhood, we start to experience what life has to offer, the good stuff the bad stuff and everything in between. And for those of us that grew up in an environment that might be more on the not cool side of things, sometimes we are faced with an internal conflict about whether or not we can trust those around us. Children that have to face this question early on tend to develop in one of two ways, they react rebelliously in an effort to go find those answers for themselves or they stick around and lash out against those adults that should have been there with the answers. Personally I feel that I'm in that first category because I am a very headstrong individual that goes and does what I want to do because I want to. So I guess my life lesson would be that, often times, that adults are just children raising children. We each have a lifelong journey to grow and hopefully by knowing ourselves better we can do better.

I tie this back to my first blog because when it comes to people in authoritative positions, I might not be the person they enjoy having around, however I think its all the more important that those that undertake leadership responsibilities understand things like this lesson. The types of personalities that interact with each other in our small communities is so varied, each and every individual has so much of a story that its impossible to understand it all but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Which is why dedicating time and patience to those that you want to impact and work with is so vital. leadership should fundamentally be getting to know the people around you, not so you can manipulate or extort them but so you can create an environment that promotes growth and comfortability hand in hand. It's often said that you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to grow, and I'm not saying that doesn't work or is wrong. I am saying that I think there's a better way to practice that and maybe even a way to efficiently grow comfortably.

thank you all and have a good night!
