War of the Skies

The relentless heat of the long hot summer was tiresome.
Month in and month out, heat exhaustion,
drained from suffocating humidity.
Mosquitoes and flies waiting at any given chance
to crawl, feed on disrobed flesh.
Summers becoming hotter, more fierce by the year...
Ravaging lands and forestation, left to burn mercilessly
taking wildlife in its treachery. A Hell on earth.
Finally the sun dips, gliding down the mountainous landscape
leaving its mottled painted pastels in spontaneous bursts
of amber fire and rose-blushing berry hues.
Twilight's relief, embraces cool breezes of the evening.
A sullen quietness as a swift change in mood,
a cold front meets humidity head-on
causing an atmospheric 'War of the skies'
drama commences as jagged edges of white electricity
reach out in forks across the black velveteen void.
An immediate round of applause
ricochets in thunderclaps and aftershocks
reverberating bellowing drumbeats,
echoing its cacophony in belligerent rebellion.
Upsetting the sensitivity of pregnant drifting clouds
into heaving sobs, purging its deluge.
Resulting in a flashing 'rain dance'
under tropical cyclonic spheres.
