Every week on Friday I will post a cool animal fact
Shetland ponies are quite short at only around 42 inches (107 cm), but they can carry twice their body weight, being over 400 pounds (182 kg)! Back in the 19th century, Shetland ponies were used to help transport coal in coal mines, since they were short and strong, as a replacement for the banning of child labor in Britian. Eventually this was carried on to the United States coal production, but using these ponies for such a job saw a lot of protests and mines that used them eventually shut down.
What animal should I talk about next? Comment below :)
