BATTLE JACKETS

Battle Jackets

My battle jacket

I have decidedto make a battle jacket, searched a lot of forums and redit poststo see what's allowed and it's fair to say that i understood that everything is allowed as long as you listen to the bands. I was skeptical at first because i mainly listen to Glam Rock, Rock, New Wave, Punk and Heavy Metal and thought it would kind of poser of me at first. i live in a small city and most of the alternative people here are very aggresive and gatekeep a lot. Tbh i'm kind of scared of them because of them being so aggresive about music. Though, I've decided that i don't really give a shit and that the way they scae people to express themselves is very poser of them. I have started out with a Blondie patch. Everything is recycled and handmade, except the pins and spikes i plan on putting.

Tips

(Things I've heard and am doing)

-Using mod podge (americans) C-200 (europeans) for a top coat on your patches! The C-200 works wonders, especially it lets the patch also be flexible

-Be creative and express yourself! It's your battle jacket and you can do anything and everything if you want! Even if you want to burn it or make it rainbow, do as you wish!

-Actually listen to the bands! It has come to my attention that this is an important one!

-Use dental floss or embroidery thread for sewing the patches, don't use iron ons! Dental floss is quite strong, so is embroidery thread, everything depends on how you want your jacket to look!

-Have fun with it! Put patches with opinions or political views, why not even some for your interests, do as you wish! (Will personally put a lot of beach themed and bone/teeth themed things)

-Use cheap, dried, white acrilyc paint ( found this out myself, works wonders )!

-Recycle as much as you can ( also a personal favorite )! Have that one bag with little add ons that is broken? Put them on the sleeves! There are a bunch of handmade pin tutorials that i am really reconsidering instead of buying new ones. Put chains, pins, whatever the fuck you want!

-Support local businesses/bands. Sometimes this can crush with the listen to the band ideaology so figure out if you want to follow it.

-Take as much time as you need, everybody does it different!

-And finally a tip for the people that live with agressive mfs! Put classic dad bands on that you listen to! It catches attention a lot but you will be quite safe. You might also do the opossite and put kind of underground bands just for the fun of it!

Have a nice day/night and have fun creating! :)

Hey there, metalhead almost 14 years in the making (started late, now in 30s) and gatekeepers are DEFINITELY, the real posers. I live near a pretty large city, there's gatekeepers there too! But you won't have to pay them any mind, cuz there's always five more of us that are aggressively inclusive and kind. I know I don't claim gatekeepers. F'ck em. In fact every time I see a new wave of starter/apprentice metalheads I get excited! Another generation loves this music and wants to be a part of it.

I listen to both dad rock bands that I may or may not still consider metal, all the way down to "if you didn't go to this venue at this time you won't know this band" level underground shit, But out of the bands I like I rep my locals really hard cuz they deserve it. But that's a me thing, and if someone else wants to do a similar thing or not is fine either way. I've had the luck to be able to get patches and shirts directly from the shows I go to, but I also hella respect DIY and made my own Dio patch which was a pain in the entire ass but I was compelled cuz that's when dude died and I wasn't getting over it very well.
