It was a blustery, chilly evening for the opening of the Smaller Art show at The Smalter Gallery, but thankfully it didn’t keep people from coming out for the occasion. It was probably a slightly smaller turnout than it would have been otherwise, but the flow of people was still steady more or less the entire time I was there.
The gallery owner was saying that they hung more than 70 pieces in total, and that wasn’t even all the work that was submitted. I don’t usually participate in much past October, because usually as people start shifting into the winter holiday season, most aren’t in that dark headspace. But, even I sold a piece during the opening night, as well as another artist who had already sold out of the pieces she had hanging.
The exhibition will continue to be on display up to the end of the year, so if you’re in the Kansas City area and looking for some last minute gift ideas, the entire show is about small artworks that are under $1000. Like me, it looked like most of the other artists brought something to be accessible to every kind of budget.
