Episode 4, Season 1 "Dan Vs. The Dentist" - INDY'S REVIEW

E4, S1 "DAN VS. THE DENTIST"

This episode has one of the most interesting plots, it has one of the most satisfying endings, and throws some amazing jokes in-between. This episode represents the rest of the show really well! Highly recommend!

PART 1: SUMMARY

In this episode, Dan is talking to Chris about Elise's birthday. When Chris sees Dans stuffed bear, he tries to take it for her present. As they're fighting over it, Dan pulls too hard and the metal part of the bear hits him, making his tooth come out. He immediately blames it on the Dentist who gave him the bear and decides he needs revenge!

But first, they need to fix Dan's tooth. They try multiple things. Chris attempts to glue it back into his mouth with a hot glue gun, and fails. Dan swallows the tooth, so this time they try to shove a toy brick into the old socket. Realizing this isn't a good solution, they are left with no choice. Dan has to go to the Dentist.

Chris takes Dan back to his old Dentist office, and after a LOT of struggling, gets his dental implant and can leave. On the drive home, Chris tells Dan he needs to go back to the dentist to get a cavity filled. He becomes enraged, claiming the dentist did this to him on purpose.

After some plotting and scheming, Dan and Chris break into the Dentist office and find proof that every time the dentist fixes something, He breaks something else! Dan is rightfully enraged, and returns to the Dentist office the following day, threatening him with a drill.

The dentist attempts to escape, driving away in his supervillain car. Dan and Chris chase after him and find his lair. They fight their way inside and confront the dentist! Chris gets completely numbed by Novocain and Dan experiences extreme agony from the dentist messing with his implant.

Just as it seems like there's no way out, Dan pulls the bear from his pocket and throws it at the dentist, breaking all his teeth! He initiates the self destruct on the lair, before dragging Chris out and watching the lair explode. Dan exclaims; "Now that's what I call tooth decay!"

PART 2: THOUGHTS

This is a really silly and funny episode. I feel like I put that in all my reviews, but I mean it every time. This episode does a good job representing that, even if Dan is erratic and angry most of the time, he is actually extremely smart and witty. He is almost always right when it comes to who he's getting revenge on and why. And when it comes to coming up with plans, he is also extremely good at it. It's almost impressive sometimes.

PART 3: DEVELOPMENT

Dan and Chris' friendship dynamic is clear. Even if Dan is sometimes (most of the time) rude to Chris, he still cares about him and needs him in his life. And no matter how many times Chris claims he wont help Dan again, he always does. He is always looking out for him. Its obvious that they need each other in their lives.

PART 4: HUMOR

This episode is probably the funniest one I've reviewed yet. As someone who spends a lot of time at the dentist, I found it very relatable. Here are some of my favorite jokes in this episode.

Firstly, when Dans tooth comes out, Chris refuses to put his hand in his mouth because, claiming "You're a biter."

Once Dan is finally at the dentists office, they bring him back and he is immediately screaming and crying out in agony. For like, a solid thirty seconds straight, he's crying about how much it hurts and begging to die. When Chris goes back to check on him, it's revealed they haven't even started any of the dental work.

When Dan returns to the dentist's office to find proof he's a supervillain, he breaks a pane of glass in the glass door, supposedly to climb through. Then he breaks another. And another. Before using his crow bar to pry the door open anyway, meaning he didn't even need to do this after all. Just when you think he's done, he turns around and breaks another for no reason. (I promise this is much funnier when you're actually watching it...me describing it doesn't do it any justice.)

Lastly, my favorite joke of the whole episode is when Dan is fighting a dento-bot, and it wraps him in dental floss. He exclaims "What is this stuff?" and when Chris tells him it's dental floss, he's like: "What is that?"

PART 5: OVERALL RATING

Just for the humor in this episode alone, I'm gonna give it a higher rating than usual. Really good stuff!
