Journal Entry #63: 08/10/23 - Old and New People Alike

♧⌞⌝⌟⌜⌞⌝⌟⌜⌞⌝⌟⌜⌞♧

So today is the 13th anniversary of my first day of kindergarten...

My parents were crying their eyes out over it, but it's interesting to see how much I've grown. Thirteen years ago, I started my education, and now I'm furthering it along.

This morning a squirrel visited my window. He was surprisingly friendly. When I put my finger up to the glass, he tried to sniff it.

I had one thing planned today, and that was this STEM Faculty Q&A panel. It was pretty nice, I saw some old faces, but also a lot of people I've never seen before naturally. None of the faculty present are any of my professors this year, which was kind of a relief, but also not. They answered lots of good questions posed by the panelist hosts but also students. I'm glad I went. After the panel ended, I ended up finding one of my STEM camp classmates. I asked him how he was doing. He managed to snag one of the nicer dorms and asked me if I had eaten lunch already. I wish I could've said yes, but I had already eaten lunch. Thankfully I have the numbers of all my fellow campers so I could message him again if I wanted, but since we haven't actually exchanged numbers, it may come off as being too forward.

Also, I met my RA today! I'm so glad that I did, I was afraid that I would have to wait until Friday. It was nice to meet them. I actually ended up seeing them in the dining hall roughly an hour after they visited my room. Oh, also I got a compliment on my hair today while I was entering the panel room.

One thing I need to talk about though is the dining hall. I have found myself eating alone a little too much. Obviously, friends don't pop up overnight, but it would be nice to sit with someone. I've actually seen some former high school classmates, but I haven't asked to sit with them. I also saw someone who was in the STEM Q&A at the dining hall. After I got my food, I couldn't find him. However, he mysteriously appeared at the table next to me while I was eating. He had an ice cream cone in hand and was staring out the window. I was scared to get his attention, but I should've asked him what he thought about the panel and what he's majoring in. We could have some classes together.

Tomorrow, I have a meeting for my floor of the residence hall. The RAs actually knocked on my door today to ask if I was going. I said yes, since I don't really have anything else to do yet. I hope to have some fun tomorrow (since it's Friday) but I also hope to meet some floormates who aren't rushing. It also looks like if I want to find my classmates from the STEM program, I'm gonna have to attend some STEM/minority events and meetings. That's not a bad thing though, 'cause I fit into both of those categories!

Boa noite,
