Grass lawns are worthless garbage

Mowing them sucks. Watering them sucks. Weeding them sucks. Why do we still have grass lawns? Surely something that doesn't require such constant maintenance would be superior.

Personally, I like the idea of a yard filled with river rocks or other smoothed stones. That might be what we do here at some future date. And some raised garden beds or perhaps a greenhouse to grow some plants that are actually useful, like cucumbers or cabbages or cannabis plants.

Mowing specifically is just the worst. Gotta lug this big noisy stupid dangerous machine all over creation to chop the tops off of the grass you don't even want in the first place. Terrible.

I want my house to have a yard around it that is both comfortable to be in and functional. I want it to be unattractive for pests such as stinging insects and mosquitos. I want solar panels and wind turbines of some variety, and a huge battery to store that power to be used at any time!

I want a lot of things for this place. Hopefully over the next few years we can start making some of it a reality.

I think I will feel less hateful towards mowing the lawn when we are able to get an electric riding mower tbh.

I never ever water the lawn, but it rains here often enough that the grass gets tall fast and mowing with a little gas push mower is quite tedious.

Plus it's much nicer to listen to music when you only have the swoosh of the blade cutting rather than the sound of a hot exhaust right in front of you.

Absolutely. Lawns are also really bad for biodiversity, as they exclude native wildlife and often favor invasive species.

Any part of my lawn that isn't rocks, I want to be native grasses and shrubs. But you don't mow those! Many townships consider any plant over 8 or 12 inches as a weed unless it is on an approved list or considered a "decorative" plant. But regular old prairie grass needs to grow strong and tall, and it doesn't look very beautiful of course.

Native plants are better for the local wildlife, and especially pollinators. And most importantly, they are lower maintenance because they're already designed to live here!
