fun facts about neptune ༊*·˚

·˚ ༘₊· ͟͟͞͞꒰➳ neptune

neptune is the last planet of the solar system and is named after the roman god of the sea!

neptune has 14 moons! the largest one being named triton (also a god of the sea!!)

triton also is the biggest moon in the entire solar system! at some point, billions of years from now, triton will likely will be torn apart by Neptune’s gravitational forces and become a magnificent ring around the planet  ⋆·˚ ༘ *

neptune is made up of dense icy materials; mainly water, methane and ammonia above a small rocky core

neptune has at least 5 rings that are made of clumps of dust and rocks likely formed by the gravity of a nearby moon (MOOONSSSS I LOVE MOONS!!!) the planet’s rings are difficult to see because they are dark, which is likely due to the presence of organic compounds that have been altered due to exposition to cosmic radiation ;-( it is also believed that neptunes rings are still very young!

neptune is made up of methane which gives it its blue colour ✧˚ · .

neptune is the smallest gas giant! also densest!!

neptune surface gravity is almost earthlike, sadly there’s no way you could actually stand on the surface of Neptune without just sinking in BUTTTT if you could stand on the surface of Neptune the force of gravity pulling you down is almost exactly the same as the force of gravity you feel walking on earth

the discovery of neptune is still a big controversy! since galileo had seen it first but thought of it as a star rather than an actual planet 2 mathematicians actually got the credit for it  *ੈ✩‧₊˚

neptune has the strongest winds in our solar system! winds that go up to 2,100 km/hour!!! thats CRAZYYYY... as you can probably imagine, scientists are puzzled as to how an icy cold planet like neptune can get its cloud tops to move so fast. a theory is that the cold temperatures and the flow of fluid gasses in the planets atmosphere might reduce friction to the point that it’s easy to generate winds that move so quickly.

neptune is also the coldest planet!! its so insane neptune is literally the best lmao. a human would freeze on there in a slip second since its 3 times as cold as the coldest temperature ever recorded on earth! (-89.2°C; -129°F)

there are no current plans to visit neptune any time again :-( underrated asf ೄྀ࿐ ˊˎ-

look at how pretty and ethereal neptune looks! this is what i want to look like. actually, this is what we all look like. were all so ethereal and shiny and prettyyyy!!! (but fr this is what i wanna look like)

this is the newest picture taken of neptune by the james webb telescope!

A wider view of Neptune from the Webb telescope. Triton, Neptune’s largest moon, is the bluish, starlike object at the upper left.

literally how are we living in such an ethereal universe i am SO GRATEFUL

ikr!?! its so scary to me how there will be always be parts of space humans will never be able to reach or discover, like who knows what could be there? for all we know there could be a planet full of fish-donkey hybrids or smth
