So last night I got to see my 2nd concert this year...and it's the first one I bought tickets for with my own money (aka I still had a job at the time and saved up my paychecks and some birthday money in order to get the tickets). I took my Death Grips obsessed boyfriend to see...you guessed it...Death Grips! We've both been quite big fans of the trio and we've bonded over our love for their music a lot.
I got the tickets practically months in advance because of seeing the show on the projector at the same venue we went to last night because I was there months ago seeing a concert with my dad (...I wasn't very interested in the main act tho, openers were neat but Steel Panther sucks...don't look them up I beg of you). But basically since seeing that they were playing at that same venue in the summer I was hellbent on getting those tickets.
and not only did I get those tickets, I had to convince my boyfriends parents beforehand to get him to go. They had their reasons to worry as Death Grips fans can definitely go apeshit in the pit but we were fine :)

Anyways the concert was great. We were entertained before the Grips came on by cheering for the IHOP ad on the projector then booing once it changed slides. Some dude in a propeller hat also passed out practically right next to us before the show even started so we witnessed the security at the venue drag him out...hope the guy is alright. The only other bad experience was just me having a panic attack because two people got in front of us at our original spot in the crowd and I was trapped in a very claustrophobic tight spot but luckily my boyfriend found an open spot right next to us and we were able to enjoy the show and have a good view.
As this was both our first experience seeing Death Grips live...it really felt surreal. Like Ride, Zach, a macbook stand-in for Andy (he hasn't been on tour with em this time it seems), and their guitar guy for this tour Nick were all just right there, literally a few feet away from us. Watching Ride be the conductor of chaos moving his arms to the beat as he gave his usual intense vocal performances and screams was insane. I was glued to what he was doing. Occasionally I got glances of Zach going ham on his drumkit. Everyone just had so much energy.
And even though Death Grips is regarded as an internet music nerd band for those who haven't felt the touch of a woman...me and my boyfriend were acting like boy-band fangirls over them. We were like hugging each other and giggling all excitedly when they were about to come on and every time Ride came to our side of the stage looking in our direction I was excitedly waving while headbanging/jumping to the music and my boyfriend was like reaching out to Ride. To be fair, Ride definitely could've seen us giving we had some lighting in our direction and were in a clear spot with less people (there was a bar in front of us anyways and I'm sure the bartender there thought me and my boyfriend were crazy with how energetic we were with the music).
Some parts of the concert that were highlights to me were when You Might Think He Loves You For Your Money But I Know What He Really Loves You For It's Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat, Anne Bonny, No Love, the first segment of Steroids, and Hacker came on. Despite the mixed feelings people have on Government Plates...I think I'm still a proud dicksucker of the album just judging by my energy when YMTHLYFYMBIKWHRLYFIYBNLSPH and Anne Bonny came on. And Hacker made a killer closer and me and my boyfriend were jumping (or should I say we were BOUNCIN' WHOOP WHOOP-) and singing along together with our arms draped around each others shoulders.

Once the show was over we hung around for a few minutes to get a good look at the stage after everyone left it and the other concert-goers were filing out. We snapped a few pics of the stage then met up with his dad to go home. Our voices were blown out, our ears weren't thanks to some earplugs, and I chugged some water down the moment we got situated in the car.
and today, the day after.....I went to IHOP for dinner. I'm (duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh) disappointed in the lack of a Death Grips meal though.
