Just curious on the fascination with younger folk on here with CD ripping. Bc it seems like a normal thing to me that I grew up doing that now seems pretty useless with bluetooth, streaming services, aux, ect. I know gen z has this uber attraction to older technology for some reason, but just wanted your input.
Why do you rip CD's in 2023?

I personally have what basically amounts to a very fancy ipod that I put music onto. I don't like the idea of not owning my music and something something audiophile something something quality. I also buy music files on bandcamp and put them on my player so it just works for me. I also have a component audio system that I have a (garbage) cd changer for and playing cds through it is fun and adds that "tactile experience" that makes physical media worth it.

Honestly not surprising how they do it since modern streaming services are a hell-hole. I've myself as a 24 yo moved away from the streaming services back to Winamp just because of how unreliable these services are becoming and how everything is going under a pay-or-else type of rules. Even then, you need genuinely good connection to have the music in good quality, something that only needs a download to get right and then either keep inside your PC or burn into a CD.

That makes sense though. I myself barely use spotify for that reason. With CDs I feel like they're so easy to scratch up and there's so much better alternatives like using an aux/Bluetooth. Or if you really insist on using old tech an ipod or mp3 player with lots of storage is also good. It just doesn't make much sense to me in the long run unless it's only for display.

There's a reason why people say that cash is king, while the alternatives are there and being pushed out, in any case things that don't need replacement will continue to live for a long time. Same as with CDs or music. Plus, much better to have backups of your stuff like music in case you need in scenarios where you don't have access to the internet.
