I was just going about my day when this thought hit me all of a sudden: were the Lord of the Rings Hobbits communist?
Like, we know that the elves, humans, and dwarves all have their own kingdoms. Even Sauron kinda presides over his own kingdom in Mordor throughout the story. But the hobbits are over here just kinda chillin'?
They work on their farms, smoke, eat, drink, and sleep all day. Mind you, It's been a long time since I've read the book - but I don't think there's any mention of hobbit classes, landlords, or capitalists. I don't even think they have a leader, but certainly no monarch if there is one. They probably don't have a formalized state, either. They all seem to get by and have their needs accommodated for without the use of exploitation.
It all fits the definition of communism, ie. a classless, stateless society.
Idk, what do y'all think? I could be totally fuzzy on some details in Tolkein lore, so anybody with more knowledge is welcome to correct me. Would y'all live like hobbits if you were in Middle-Earth, or would you do something else?

Given how the hobbits live and their society, I'd say yeah they're communist. Even in the movies they're portrayed as a people of one kind, all just... There, chillin'. Honestly I'm jealous of them, while everyone else is fighting their wars and at each others necks, the hobbits just farm, drink and sit in their huts. Man. Never thought I'd be thinking of how good it would be to be a hobbit, thanks LMAO

Right?? I'd want nothing more to live in a cozy little hobbit hole, and enjoy a second breakfast. Those fellas had it all figured out
