hometown minizine project

the goal i have with this project is to radicalize my town, at least the most i can. i live in a small town 10 minutes away from a slightly larger college town in the states and the people who live here fucking suck. we have a very small music scene between the two towns that mostly consists of douchy frat bros and ladies who think that not consuming gmos make them an activist. the town next door is fairly liberal but not in a radical way, but in a lululemon tourist town performative way and i'm sick of it.

i have been working on making minizines to leave around town (w/ a link to the project's instagram page on the back of course lol) in order to promote independent & more alternative media. my goal is to create a community that not just talks about social and economic issues but actively examines them and works to find solutions. i would love to find like-minded people within my community to work with.

my minizines will focus on small topics such as music based subcultures, the basics of economic theories, interviews with interesting/important people in our community and more. i want to create something meaningful with my time and i think my hometown is in desperate need of a nerdy zine :)

minizine 1: crust punk 101

(8/4/23)

i have just finished up my first zine that i find to be suitable to place around town. it is a basic introduction of the crust punk subgenre. i talk about diy culture, influencial bands, political themes and the anatomy of the music. it's small, an 8 page zine made of a piece of paper folded into 8 rectangles.

the plan is to go to my local library tomorrow and scan it into my computer so i can print out a couple of samples to give to friends as a test before i print more. if all goes well i would like to print 20 zines to place around town. once i get it scanned i'll upload it onto here so if anyone wants one they can print it off :)

(8/6/23)

just scanned the zine and copied 10 of them. i gave a couple of them to the local record shop, one of them to a random dude who complimented my outfit & one of them to a friend of mine. i'm planning on printing off a quite a few more of them giving them out.

Here's the PDF File if you want to print off one: Crust Punk 101

i also made an instagram. we'll see how that goes.
