β›“πŸ¦· Where I got my punk wardrobe πŸ¦·β›“

I see a lot of posts asking where to get clothes so here's where mine came from (I live in the UK so not everything will be accessible to people in other contries)

☣ I do a lot of thrifting, specifically in charity shops. I go to uni and sometimes the clubs I'm in hold clothes swaps or sales. These are good for denim and cheap boots but a bit of a gamble for anything else, you just gotta go regularly. I recommend shopping around halloween because thay put out better stuff (I got some glow in the dark skeleton earrings fom that). Think about DIY potential in what you're buying ☣

πŸ’€ Hand me downs are also a good source of denim. I'm quite small so I get a lot of other peoples suff, I know this doesn't work for everyone. πŸ’€

☒ Surprisingly often I find old clothes in the various art classrooms I've been in. Keep an eye out for stuff like that if you're an art or textile student. ☒

☒️ I like my jeans to last so I do buy some new ones. Blue bolt is my personal favourite for buying online as they make nice thick jeans. ☒️

πŸ’₯For flannels I go to secondhand markets and recycled fabric shops or get them as hand me downs from my grandads. πŸ’₯

β›“ Hardware stores/pet stores are good for chains and leash chains that can become wallet chains and other accessories. β›“

🧷 Sewing/craft stores are good for safety pins and think embroidery thread for those who like to sew on patches in colourful thread (you can also find embroidery thread in a lot of charity shops as well as other metal do-dads). You can also get jacket spikes in these places sometimes. 🧷

πŸ«€ If you have a local fabic recycling place that's a great place to get tartan/flannel material to make patches or do other DIY with πŸ«€

πŸ”— You should also just make friends with old people. I get a lot of buttons and other trinkets that way. One old lady who I used to get shopping for gave me a couple of kilt pins which are really cool :) πŸ”—

☠︎ I recommend buying boots new, these will be the most expensive thing in your wardrobe. I like Solovair or New Rock for boots. My main pair rn is a Berkenstock pair that were a gift, they'll last me a long time but they're not that comfy :/ Make sure you polish them regularly to stop the leather from cracking. ☠︎

🧷 I diy can tab chains, bottle top badges, and fabric patches. You can find easy guides to make these on youtube. I also made a fishnet shirt out of an oud pair of fishnet tights which is smth you can also find tutorials for easily. I recommend collecting can tabs, I recently used crochet to make a load of them into a waterbottle holder for myself. I recommend collecting shoe laces and old boots as they're good for cutting up and adding as interesting details on crust pants. Collecting key chains, chains, broken necklaces, and lanyards are also good for DIY. 🧷

πŸ•· I keep loads of scrap fabric and denim for making patches. You can make designs with fabric paint (make your own by mixing acrylic and fabric softener) or thread or more layers of cut out fabric. πŸ•·

πŸ’˜ Look out for scrap metal on the floor. I collect bits of zippers, chains, earrings, etc to sew to my clothes or combine into an accessory. πŸ’˜

🦷 I also have a lot of badges from various comic cons, pride events, festivals, and comic book shops. 🦷

𖀐 I also attend local queer or BDSM markets and both are great places to get accessories and clothes from local artists 𖀐

☣️ I have occasionally bought other things new but I try not to as I don't believe in overconsumption. Supporting small bussinesses is always good. ☣️

Here's a link to my alternative brands masterdoc for other places to buy things.

I'll keep updating this post. That's all I can think of for now, bye!!! πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ–€

I've also seen people take the metal bit off the top of a lighter and put that on the edge of a piece of fabric somewhere but haven't tried it myself

I have since tried this myself and it looks cool and is good for worn patched at the edge of your clothes. I also bought a secondhand eyelet machine to add more metal to my jacket :))
