SNSD Girls Generation (2007) Album Review

This is an accompaniment for my TikTok series I'm starting where I deep dive into Girls Generation's discography and rate every album from them. I will be adding extra thoughts here for every song that I left out of the TikTok. Also I'm starting to feel that some of these are too harsh the more I listen to the songs and warm up to them but I'm sticking with the original ranking I gave them for this blog. Girls Generation ~ 8.75 ~ Tier: Perfect

I feel like this one deserves more attention as an snsd classic. Also hilarious that its Girls Generation on the album Girls Generation by the group Girls Generation. But yeah I really really like this song.

Ooh La La ~ 5 ~ Tier: Good

I couldn't decide if I loved this song or hated it so it just averaged out to the pure middle. I think the answer is both at once. Very bouncy and silly sounding in a cute way

Baby Baby ~ 3.75 ~ Tier: Okay

I'm sorry but I found this one kind of annoying in the chorus. The rest is fine but I don't have much to say about it. It's fine! The music video is very cute.

Complete ~ 2.5 ~ Tier: Bad

This album did not need another ballad let alone one thats so boring. It brings nothing to the table. The live version I linked does sound pretty though.

Kissing You~ 6.25 ~ Tier: Great

This feels so classic kpop girl group! It reminds me of a pre-Lovelyz Lovelyz song! Very cute very fun I like it a lot. The strings add a lot to it.

Merry-Go-Round ~ 5 ~ Tier: Good

Kind of boring but not bad in any way. The intro is kind of gay in the context of the song which is fun, dedicating the love song to someone with the woman's name Mary.

Tears ~ 6.25 ~ Tier: Great

How is this the only one so far that doesn't have a life performance video?? Anyway. This one is a beautiful ballad that I enjoyed a lot more when I read the lyrics. Absolutely devastating.. I loved you more so I'm hurting more T^T

7989 (Kangta & Taeyeon) ~ 3.75 ~ Tier: Okay

This reminds me of like an Sm Station duet. It's pretty boring unfortunately. Taeyeon sounds great!  It is interesting that the company seemed to already know Taeyeon would be the breakout star (not the other girls aren't stars too in their own right) 

Honey ~ 7.5 ~ Tier: Amazing

I didn't know this song before but I'm obsessed now! It's so good. It manages to be really cutesy and really chill and groovy.

Into the New World ~ 10 ~ Tier: Masterpiece

This song is so iconic! No one else is debuting like she debuted. I have no complaints no criticisms.

Average Score: 5.6 ~ Tier: Good

I think the album is actually stronger than I originally gave it credit for but officially it gets a "Good" Ranking. It's a little one note with all the ballads and slower cutesy songs. When listening to the all back to back it does lack something. Overall, though, I think it's a great place to start from for SNSD as a group. Oh also sorry the scores are janky I originally just gave them tiers so when I wanted to average scores I had to work backwards. I just assigned each tier a score that was balanced. Next time I'll do things in the opposite direction lol. Anyway thanks for reading please let me know what you think. ^_^
