Okay, so I've been wanting to get top surgery for a few years now, and the surgeon I wanna go with requires a letter from a therapist or the like before consultation. I just had that appointment to get a letter done so I thought I'd write out my experience doing so!
I found a local place that was willing to do so for free after trying one I found online and getting ghosted, so yay to that! The appointment was only 20 or so minutes, and I was kinda expecting to get questioned about the reasons I felt I needed this surgery. Not really what happened though, just asked about some rather mundane things. I'll list what I can remember below.
- my identity (nothing too in depth, just the words I use to describe myself mainly)
- people I was out to
- what my ideal transition would be
- medications I was on
- other diagnoses
- what my support group looked like (esp concerning recovery)
- what I expected recovery to be like
- concerns about negative response post surgery
- whether I wanted them to send the letter to the surgeon or to send it to me
They were real chill and said they'd get me the letter within a couple weeks! Fingers crossed on that :0
