ghost pipes

hi everyone, i spent my day up in the mountains looking at all types of plants and mushrooms and mosses.  the clouds were pretty dense and it kind of felt like being on another planet, it was so cool watching the fog roll through the hills.  

here's a view of the bald that i was on, there's lots of different theories on how these came to be and i have a tough time choosing which one i agree with.  maybe it was a little bit of everything =] who knows.  also, check out the ghost pipes! these guys stay underground all year and only bloom above ground for one week before disappearing again.   i was really stoked to see these guys.
