Selamat pagiiii! °˖✧⁽⁽◝(⁰▿⁰)◜◝(⁰▿⁰)◟₎₎✧˖° The zoo trip was AN INCREDIBLE SUCCESS!
I was waiting for months, and yet, the excitement didn't quite kick in until I was finally there.. …(◍¯∀¯◍)
I incidentally befriended more animals than I thought I would.. that's weird..
Since I took lots of photos, this will be another image heavy blog post!
I hope you can enjoy it anyway! I'll embed photos, so you can see the full resolution if you click it!
once again, I hope you can stick around, thank you for being here.. it's a long one.. (* ̄▽ ̄)b じゃ...行くぞ!
<◉ )))><< ~~~ 前振りここまで ~~~ >><(((◉>
WHERE DO I EVEN START... well, when you get in - it feels like there's this urge to get on the Safari Bus!! (ง •ૅ౪•᷄)ว So, of course, that's always where everyone runs off to most. I've never actually once enjoyed the Safari Bus because you can never see anything and all the active and cool animals are always incidentally on the opposite side where you sit, no matter what you choose. But, I had a new camera with an impressive zoom, so I went up on the upper deck!!
It was miserable as usual ... but I recorded a video of baby Andean Bear cubs fighting, so it was nice. No one else could see them .. ˛˛ꉂ ೭(˵¯̴͒ꇴ¯̴͒˵)౨” Besides pandas, Andean Spectacled Bears are probably the most herbivorous species of bear!! They enjoy fruits and are excellent climbers..
( Even this was blurry, since they were in a cave behind a waterfall. (҂‾ ▵‾) This is the last bad picture I'll show you..)
So!! If you ever visit any zoo, don't go on the bus tour, ever.. you can see everything up close much better on your own.. it's a waste of 45 minutes. ( ﹁ ﹁ ) ~→
My friends were annoyed, because I kept telling them animal facts before the tour guide could ..
"And the name of Jaguar spots actually has a name..." "Rosettes. ( ՞ټ՞)"
"And when the Secretary Bird spots prey..." "(՞ټ՞ ) It stomps it to death."
"And when the Secretary Bird spots prey..." "(՞ټ՞ ) It stomps it to death."
I can't help it ...
There was, probably, one other good animal I saw on the Safari Bus? And that's the California Condor!! They're highly endangered, but I've seen a few.. They're giant, like a pterodactyl or something. ╰( ̄ω ̄o) Our tour guide said she cried when she saw her first one ... This one below is a 5th or 6th year male, I think!
After a while I kind of started to get bored, since I was with a big group .. (꒪ཀ꒪) The zoo is fine, but it gets so sluggish in a big group, and I wanted to see as many animals as I could .. So, I broke off from the group!!! That was when the pace actually picked up .. After all, there's no better pace than マイペース ...
Here's the first friend I got to meet after I ran off, and he is .. likely a Galapagos Tortoise!! There were so many tortoises in one exhibit that I got mixed up! If I'm correct, this one is nearing 100 years old! The populations of Galapagos tortoises that live on the more arid islands on the Galapagos actually developed shells that are saddle-shaped with a high notch above the neck, like this one below!! This is so they can stretch their necks up and reach higher vegetation. They've been in the zoos care since the 1920s, so they're probably older than 100.. (゚Д゚≡゚Д゚)? Who knows where they've been!!
And then there were monkeys... so many monkeys... usually they're boring to see since they tend to stay away from the bars and hide in the trees, but I actually got to see a lot of them at a good view!! (° ꈊ °)✧˖°オホッ! I mainly watched the Angolan Colobus Monkeys.. These ones were in a branch grooming each other and eating nits .. (6´∀`) Unlike other monkeys, Colobus Monkeys have hind legs that are much longer than their forelimbs, which means they're incredible jumpers, and at such high speed too!? I didn't get many good pictures of them, they were so fast .. (ΦДΦ)
The aviary was also nice ..
And then there was this friend, who I actually couldn't identify - it wasn't anywhere on any of the signs!! They let me get extremely close and take some amazing pictures.. I figure it's some kind of ibis, maybe a female or juvenile.. it was very sweet!!
I.. I don't understand how you can get to that age without ever seeing a red panda, even in photos. It's incredible. i understand tech illiteracy with older people, but this .. I was stunned ..
This was a personal favorite, but I saw a gerenuk too!! They've been one of my favorites for some time.. щ(゜ロ゜щ) They're known for standing perfectly upright on their hind legs for long periods of time to chew leaves from the trees above!! I didn't get to see any of them do that since I was in a hurry, but I got a pretty good photo..The black spot you see in front of their eyes is actually a scent gland, it makes a tarry substance that makes a certain scent. They rub this on bushes and branches to mark their territory!
By the arial tram, there's a bridge that goes over an exhibit with a Patagonian Mara and a Giant Anteater.. I really wanted to see the Giant Anteater since they're one of my favorite animals, and I finally saw her tail disappear under the bridge.. so I ran to the other side, and she wagged her tail and walked in a big arch? She snorted at me a few times and then ran to the other side again.. we just kept doing that over and over again.. After some time, this mother and her daughter came and were trying to figure out what was in the exhibit. At this point, I'm already playing zoo guide.. so I go, "It's a giant anteater! ( •̀ ω •́ )✧" and told them about anteaters.. It was so hard to show them the anteater since she would just wag her tail and walk over to the other side of the bridge .. once they found it though, I went on my way and they kept running back and forth on the bridge together. ╰( ̄ω ̄o)
Giant Anteaters are seriously massive in person, the picture doesn't do her justice!! They eat around 30k ants and termites a day, but due to such a low nutritional value in their diet, they're very slow and can sleep up to 16 hours a day. This one was full of energy, so I'm glad she's eating well. (≧∀≦)ゞ Due to the low diet and activity, they have the lowest body temperature of any mammal, and often use their long tail as a blanket!
The lion was asleep with his tongue out, I think he really does his Kemono Friends counterpart justice... ( ̄︶ ̄)↗
There were also two teenage boy African Bush Elephants (note the curved tusks and ears shaped like Africa)! They apparently are a lot similar to real teenage boys, they were running into each other, chasing, playing, yelling the entire day..
They're dormant in early mornings with some additional naps during the midday, for a total of 4 hours of sleep per day on average.. Their trunks are strong enough to kill a lion in one swipe, but also has refined lobes delicate enough to pick up a single feather.. ∑( 口 ||
oh, but when I got to the meerkat exhibit, there were zero adults visible.. Just one little juvenile looking confused and petrified on top of the tallest mound.. Everyone was just quietly going 'aww..' and taking pictures of him, but I think he was having a crisis in his little head.
i don't have much to say about the Masai giraffe, but I got a really good picture of her tongue.
last but not least, my absolute favorite was the Serval...(;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)
I didn't get many good images, but it's a given - the exhibit is glass, and she was just waking up for the afternoon.. but I was just happy to have been there!! They're my favorite animal, so I just sat there a long time at the exhibit.. It's tucked away in this dead end sort of far into the jungle, so it was very quiet and shaded and peaceful. ( *︾▽︾) Servals are also crepuscular, so her most active hours are usually dawn and dusk. Many savanna animals, namely predators, will sleep through the midday to avoid the heat of the sun and conserve energy - meanwhile, common prey will usually go to get water at this time!
Servals aren't really big game hunters or even stalkers at all, really.. they will stalk some, but they rely mostly on their large ears to pinpoint prey even beneath the ground. They're more of a 'stand and watch' type, waiting and watching their prey before jumping up to 10 ft in the air and pinning it under their body weight!! It's a very successful hunter, getting a kill in half of all of its tries. They usually will eat small prey like rodents, mice, insects, frogs, etc.. and a serval doesn’t hesitate to reach a long leg down into a rodent's burrow to snatch a meal out of the tunnel! (^∀^●)ノシ They're very playful, with a tendency to leap and play in water, as well as intentionally chase prey back into tunnels just to catch it again.. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
This isn't much of anything, but i just really love the work put into the plantlife at the San Diego Zoo.. some people say it can double as both a zoo and a botanical garden!! When I'm not near the hubs with food/shops, it seriously just feels like you're in the jungle.. I remember when I was waiting on my group, there was an unimportant looking spot by the crocodile/hippo exhibit where I rested on a rail for a while, and a cool breeze was coming up from the trees and from this lake filled with fish beneath me .. it's such a nice place.. ( *︾▽︾) i think I'll be fine living out my days here, so I'll become a squirrel, or a duck, or one of their free-roaming peacocks, maybe..
ok, well, i think that's it!! Thanks for reading this and looking at my
pictures!! Remember, you can click on them to see the full thing/more
animals!! THIS WAS REALLY LONG so I hope i was able to keep your attention.. (°ー°〃) Let me know what you thought!! I was excited to share everything!!
ONCE AGAIN .. if you got this far, tell me an animal fact, or let me know which animal your favorite is!! I'm also happy to answer questions, because I love to be obnoxious and ramble about animals, it's my favorite.. (^∀^●)ノシ

I DON'T KNOW they're just so big and cute and snort extremely loud .. and it's cute that they use their tail as a blanket ( *︾▽︾) I've liked servals since I was a kid, but Kemono Friends boosted it a bit too!!

I think the bird you couldn't identify is a Spoonbill of some type. I'd say Rosy type but it's white, maybe it just hasn't had any shrimp in a while? :)

Ohh the top bird is a spoonbill!! The one I couldn't identify was a kind of brown ibis, but I think it's either a young bald-faced ibis or white-faced ibis.

giraffes are SO interesting!
the full length of their tongue is 22 inches...it's kind of scary to think about. i've never seen one stretch it that far, but it kind of reminds me of a particularly large anteater.. ( ̄▽ ̄;)
my favorites are the reptile exhibits, though..
i can't help it! they're so cute (๑>◡<๑), especially monitor lizards!...even if they could take my head off...

THAT'S SO COOL?? The only animals I've seen do that are the numbat .. ∑( 口 || And I loved the reptile exhibits a lot too!! The reptile house here has so many cool animals, i really like Boelen's Python, emerald tree boa .. all the monitors are soo so cute too.. My little sister was terrified of the snakes and would hiss at them and then cheerily go 'no! no! no! no!!'
