That time the cinema decided to make my viewing experience hell :(
I'm not the easiest to scare- I've watched a few horror movies in my time, most of them are old ones that rely more on suspense than huge amounts of blood, but I'm not exactly keen on getting surprised by trailers for them in cinemas!
Don't get me wrong, I think horror is a very interesting and enjoyable genre and I respect the people who make the trailers, but with how dark the cinema is it's a very different experience to watching movies in a well-lit room with a couple of friends.
I went to see Blade Runner 2049 once with my dad, and around that time (though I didn't know it) there was a new SAW film out. It was broad daylight and usually in the UK, cinemas aren't allowed to show some trailers before late evening. For once, my dad and I got to the cinema kind of earlier than usual and managed to catch the trailers - oh boy did it not go as planned.
I'd been feeling uneasy around that time, my anxiety had spiked thanks to my autism, so I was already not doing so great. :(
The trailers were... a mixed bag to say the least. A Quiet Place (awesome film btw), followed by, of all things, a family comedy called Daddy's home 2???? OK, weird choice, but nothing too off-putting.
And then the logo for Twisted Pictures flashed up and- to this day I have no clue why- I instantly started bawling. My chest hurt, eyes were feeling weird - it was not fun dude :(
People were staring so we ended up leaving - honestly, the best thing to do- I hate panicking in public, people look at me so judgementally and it hurts.
The good ending: We got free tickets because an usher saw me panic... embarrassing but sure, I'll take it if it means I get to see the film I actually want to see without feeling like I'm in a blender LMAO
Anyway, another Saw trailer is going to get put into cinemas soon, and well... I am not chancing it- no ads for me! Just going to sit in the lobby and wait it out. I don't care if I miss like 5 seconds of the film, not worth the trouble. XD
