ean's conundrums ch. 1 | settling in

7/29/23

hello!! it's been quite a while since i've updated ean's conundrums, i've just been really busy!! i moved all the way from florida to missouri about a month ago, but i'm finally settled in and able to blog about it all!

moving has been kind of messy. i'd imagine thats kind of the status quo for any move This far but my luck always amplifies those kinds of things. i had to go for like 2 weeks without anything but the 3 days worth of clothes i packed with me on the plane. i'm just thankful that i have so much family up here because they made moving SO much less painful. i finally have all my furniture and whatnot arranged and my little apartment is finally starting to feel like home. i even started a little succulent garden on my desk!

i also got the COOLEST piece of furniture omg. it's an old record console that my grandma gifted me as a moving in gift that she bought for only $35 from the local antique mall!! i did some research on it, and it's an old 1962 record player made by philco. so thus, i have named it phil and made him my project. the old internals were broken so i went and bought myself a new set, but it is so much fun to work on!! it's gotten a little chipped and faded in its age, so now that i have the electronics worked out i wanna give it a brand new finish. also i didnt realize when i bought it but the speaker i got for it has blindingly bright leds on the back of it so im gonna drill holes in the bottom of the console so it'll have a cool underlight. really pimpin out this old record player huh.

the raccoon's name is raccacoonie btw

speaking of the antique mall, i'm actually starting to become friends with its owner!! she's an older lady who i'll call Kat who runs it with her husband. my grandma doesn't like her as much because she's "rough around the edges" which just means she swears and smells vaguely of weed sometimes but she's really sweet to me so i don't mind! i actually found out that the record console used to be HERS so i've been giving her updates on my restoration and i can tell it makes her really happy. there's so much cool stuff that's always being added to the antique mall, so i make sure to stop in at least once a week to say hello and check it all out!!

i still have another 3 weeks before school starts, but even in this small town i'm finding ways to keep myself busy. there isn't a whole lot to do, but restoring phil gives me something to do!! i've also been helping my grandparents tend to their garden which has been fun (and a little itchy too lol). i'm still getting used to living alone, but i'm actually enjoying it a lot more than i thought i would. i was supposed to have a roommate but that kind of fell through a few months ago. it's nice having my own space though. the quiet kind of gets to me sometimes, but being able to crank shit on my record player definitely helps lol. it's certainly a different (much slower) pace of life here, but i'm adjusting real well. its a lot nicer having a break from the city than i expected. i'm really excited to start my engineering classes though!! can't wait to finally meet other people who like tinkering as much as i do.

now that i've got settled in, i wanna try to make this a weekly blog with some other random stuff thrown in between. idk what day i'll do them on, but fridays or weekends is probably the best. i think it'll do me good to have that kind of weekly reflection.

wish me luck,

ean
