Why is it socially acceptable for men to not shave but not for women?

Before I start ranting, I just want to clarity that I'm not one of those twitter "feminists" that are so extremist that it feels like they forgot what the concept of feminism is in the first place, ok? Now that that's clarified, buckle up 'cause this is going to be a little long! There's also a TL:DR in the end, if you wanna skip to that :)

Well, I have to admit that I don't really like shaving. It hurts and I don't really benefit from it in any way. I get it when body hair starts being too long and it gets quite unconfortable, but I don't get the standart that ABSOLUTE no body hair should be visible. Only for women, of course.

I tried to have a debate about this with my mom, and her reasoning was that it is actually a self-hygiene thing, but if that's the case, why isn't that the norm for everyone? From a scientific standpoint, it's actually estimated that men actually sweat more than women, so, if it's about sweat and self-hygiene, shouldn't this be applicable to them too? (so you don't say that I'm making this up, here are 2 studies: herf="https: journals.physiology.org="" doi="" abs="" 10.1152="" jappl.1988.65.2.811"="">https://journals.physiology.org/doi/abs/10.1152/jappl.1988.65.2.811 herf="m/nsca-jscr/Abstract/2006/08000/Gender_Differences_in_the_Sweat_Response_During.40.aspx"m/nsca-jscr/Abstract/2006/08000/Gender_Differences_in_the_Sweat_Response_During.40.aspx)

So, why is this such a common thing? Why do women get dirty looks for simply having a little of body hair under their armpits? Where did this come from?

TL:DR: Women are "obligated" to shave by society to shave and men aren't even though they sweat more and I don't understand why

If you read all of this, thank you so much for spending your precious time reading my rant! Also, fell free to leave your thoughts on the comments!

Edit: I'm refering to ocidental culture (US/Europe, more especifically, since I'm not sure about how it is in the rest of the world). I should have addeed this sooner, but I forgot and I'm sorry.

as a female, I hate shaving my legs too. Its just so much work for something that doesnt bother me. Infact, I think that my legs look wird when they are shaved. I guess its just this ridiculous patriarchy that wants to turn women into almost non-human toys. well fuck that. My mom doesnt care but my dad says it looks unhygenic... he is a cool dad but that was a ick. Whatever fuck the patriarchy

It can also depend on the culture. In every culture there's different standards n what not
