One year ago today, January 24, 2020, Caspian released their fifth full-length album “On Circles.” I immediately fell in love with it.
The prior album, “Dust & Disquiet,” hit me hard when it came out in 2015. It was dark, it was doom, it was heavy. It expressed the pain and grief the band was going through. I could relate to the emotion being amplified through the notes but my pain was different.
“On Circles” was beautiful, uplifting, and yet still contained grief and darkness. But from the grieving process, this album exemplified their growth through the process; which mirrored my own growth through grief.
At the time, I didn’t know that this release would be the sole album to pull me through the pandemic and keep me feeling fresh and connected. I made 3 new friends through this album. Grateful for that. I may not have met any new folks in 2020 if it were not for this release. Lockdown and distancing was real but nothing can stop the connectivity that Caspian provides through their music and community of fans.
