maybe i'm getting old, maybe not (6)

7/27/23

alright, i’m making this because i’ve realized how chronically online anyone 14 and or younger are. yeah, you might be thinking, “but gi! you’re only 17! you’re not old!” or “not all people 14 or younger are chronically online!” and both of those statements are correct, but also not entirely true. (also, what is the appeal of wanting to act/ be perceived as older???)

as someone who was exposed to the internet and things i definitely shouldn’t have been exposed to when i was a LITERAL fetus, i digress. as i’ve wandered around this website, a lot of people are 14 or younger and have 5 million undiagnosed mental illnesses in their bio. (/lh) i’m not against self-diagnosing especially if there had been extensive research beforehand, but it’s definitely scary to see lol.

nobody should be putting their mental illnesses or disorders/medical information (whether diagnosed professionally or not) ONLINE. it is extremely dangerous and seemingly nobody is afraid of the mysteries of the internet anymore. did anyone ever teach you internet safety?

i don’t even think i would’ve known half of the things people who are 11 years old now know. it’s just so scary to see people younger than me on the internet putting things like, “he/him, 11, single” on vrchat. LIKE?,?!????  anyone nowadays will throw the accusations of someone being racist, ableist, homophobic, and straight up harass people in a blink of an eye without thought on tik tok or twitter.

i’m not saying people of all ages DONT ALSO DO THIS, but a lot of the time in fanbases specifically, there is a younger audience. it’s just like??? you came out of the womb and suddenly you are calling someone ableist because they didn’t like your oc-sona. RELAX!!!! it’s not that serious, please block and ignore, and suddenly the world is at peace.

god forbid you like a character from a different fandom, it’ll send your ‘friend’ into a freaking episode. poke someone’s avatar by accident in a game: it’ll also send someone into a catastrophic mental failure. nothing is ever THAT DEEP, and people in real life will not give 2 shits about anything. you’ll end up starting to give less and less fucks about anything when you have a few birthdays and mentally advance (+1 level up!). (i freaking sound like a boomer)

wow this was tiring to type. again, i would like to clarify NOT EVERYONE WHO IS 14 OR UNDER IS CHRONICALLY ONLINE before anyone takes offense to this post (if you've even gotten this far.) it's just so weird to see i guess. anyways, let me know what you think!

This is the reason I don't like interacting with a lot of fandoms I'm in
I'm only 16 turning 17 but God damn they make me feel so fucking old

I'm convinced the next generation of adults will have the worst internet footprint imaginable but honestly I'm REALLY blaming a lot of the system here. I feel like 15 is the moment where most people finally are smart enough to be like "hey this isn't the best behaviour is it!!!" because anyone under is definitely a product of their surroundings. Last year when I was 14 I went to a twitter fandom of a cute little indie game I liked and my surroundings were like 3 sexual predators and chronically online abusive friendships and I think for that I TURNED OUT PRETTY DAMN OKAY

But still, it's important not to waste time with people like that even if they're somewhat "innocent" because honestly some people just can't be worth your time and they have to figure themselves out instead of YOU having to figure them out for them.

honestly, nobody should have a phone until middle school 7th-8th grade at this point. babies are growing up with screens because parents are too lazy to genuinely take care of their kid(s) and then parents act SO surprised when their kid is so dependent on their technology. like damn!!!!!
