escaflowne - first impressions

so, im 4 episodes into an anime called the vision of escaflowne! so far, so good!! i picked up a dvd of this from a used bookstore cause i  Really missed the experience grabbing random physical media like i used to do w vhs tapes and. i might be getting the full box set soon ??? we shall see!

so theres a Lot going on here. released in 1996, this show is like. a big ol soup of isekai fantasy, mecha, and shojo. so thats something i havent yet experienced, fun! i need to watch more mecha anime..Give recs if you have any!

i really liked the ep 1 setup of accidentally summoning an edgy 15 year old samurai prince and monster dragon onto her schools track field.

 
this monster design is pretty Rad. the first episode is a Great opener to a show!

thats a bit of a Reverse from the "protag transported to another world" thing  except then she Actually does get beamed to another world (gaea, a planet seemingly across from earth where you can see it and the moon in the sky at all times.)

this show also has like Peak catgirl. feral child roaming the halls. stealer of trinkets.  i LOVE the big ol ears this character design is so!!!! Yes !!! this is similar to a type of design  which i really love to create and draw so im very thrilled by that. merle <3

van, our reckless prince/king boy  shows signs of having a caring side, as well as having those big Angry eyebrows i am so fond of (it might be my fakir fan bias Showing..) i am curious to know more of him.  i am also really curious to see what hitomi's role in this world will be with her tarot thing and future sight ?? i have no idea where this is going

i will say. maybe its just me but i do Not trust this allen guy. he seems Decent  but i rolled my eyes at "its my job as a man to protect you" type shit. watching utena has changed me and spoiled my view of characters of a particular vibe. I apologize in advance if hes actually normal ..</3

i can see where shes coming from but girl you met him Yesterday. save yourself
(uhhh...also. it just occured to me. just How old is this guy??? you can never tell with anime..)

and of Course, we have some awesome mech fights. but WAIT! theres MORE! escaflowne can turn into a dragon. i love this so much.

anyway i really like it so far! the animation is nice and the soundtrack is BALLER. i love that the background tracks just have somebody chanting the title of the anime. Very great stuff. when the ending theme comes on im filled with Excitement!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
