Thoughts on the modern internet culture (mainly DNIs)

As a disclaimer half of this was written at 4 am lol

The old web is just so comforting to me& because it's a way to get away from a lot of the stresses of the modern web and tbh I& really don't like the whole... idk, discourse-centered culture that seems to have infested every corner of the interwebs?

It's everywhere on the big social media like Tumblr and Twitter, and well, whatever, I&'ve come to expect to see it there anyway so I&'ve learnt how to just ignore it and avoid it. Plenty of people who do not participate in that. But then on some places where you really wouldn't think you'd encounter it on, like Toyhouse or PonyTown, it's like everyone there wants to turn those places into Twitter o_0

DNIs (Do Not Interact lists) in particular are extremely stressful for me&, because for one, just reading through them reminds me& of a lot of unpleasant things like bigotry for example. It's like that one post about how "owning the transphobes is not worth exposing your fellow trans people to the hateful posts you're reacting to". That sentiment really resonates with me&. And like... if someone is actually bigoted in some way, just block them??? They're not going to read through your DNI??? They're utterly useless!!! And it drives me& mad that not only do they blast my& brain with unnecessary stress, they do it for nothing!!!

It's even worse when I& have literally zero way of checking someone's DNI before interacting. Like if their profile is privated to friends only or if I& have to friend them on Discord before seeing their bio. Like, oh cool, just accepted this friend request and only THEN do I& get to find out they hate my& fandom or something. Or, another thing that I& encounter a lot on PonyTown specifically (and the reason why I& pretty much stopped playing) is when you have to click through at LEAST two links that you have to search for in order to find the list. If you really want to make sure everyone follows the list, WHY DON'T YOU MAKE IT EASILY ACCESSIBLE?!?!

Like come on, it's become just a way of posting a list of your opinions. You can do that with discourse posts or stamps or whatever >:P And frankly, discourse-centered people like that are insufferable. I& might start unfriending anyone with a DNI list unless they're a REALLY close friend. MAN UP AND BLOCK THE PEOPLE YOU DON'T LIKE!!!!!!!!

(and if you're scared that you end up befriending someone who you disagree with... WHAT HAPPENED TO TALKING TO EACH OTHER???? and keep all your interpersonal drama TO YOURSELF!!!)

(actually no, for real, how is one of the top blog posts on this website a callout!? How do you people have the mental energy for that????)

All of this culture overall is just extremely tiring and frankly can lead to OCD-like symptoms and paranoia. It's already had a very detrimental effect on my& mental health after teaching myself& how to abide by all these useless and stressful social rules that you people made up for no reason.

KEEP THAT TO TWITTER!!!! NOT ON SPACEHEY!!!!!

Angry rant over, Jack Manifold out o7 :P

It goes over my head how people here praise old internet and say they wanna get away from big tech just to then enforce modern internet culture that big tech enforces.

My biggest issue with this is how old internet is all about freedom but these people wanna police what they can and can't say and make their lecture call outs against anyone who doesn't have the 'right' views and opinions.
Heck some call outs are just personal drama and the pricks here think they can get someone banned cause "they were mean to me in a private space. They said something edgy on a different site"
