Mooncakes...

A crescent moon sits behind hazy clouds and the silhouettes of pine trees.

I just finished reading the comic Mooncakes (Wendy Xu & Suzanne Walker) and it was so honestly adorable and wholesome.

I went into it knowing that one of the characters was Jewish, and that it was going to be queer. What I didn't notice on the cover was Nova's blue OTE hearing aid, though!!! So when I opened the page and saw here there, with one over her ear, I just went "No way. No way?" And kept reading. Then I saw her ask someone to repeat themself when they mumbled and looked away. Then I was certain she was HoH when she took her aid out for the phone--and then she said it!

I also wasn't aware that Tam, the werewolf, is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. So, imagine my delight when I got to the page where they correct one of Nova's grandma's on their pronouns!

I wasn't the biggest fan of the "twist" or the villain/s, but I think overall this was such a good and wholesome and fun read. Very sweet and warm and soft. I'm so, so happy that I read it, and I really can't recommend it enough to anyone who needs something super sweet and warm. This book genuinely has so, so much warmth and kindness in it.
