i was typing this up for a tiktok but figured since the quality would fuck it up and make it hard to read there, i'd just also put this here so i dont go crazy trying to figure out what i typed months later.
barbie 2023 deserves so much love :) everything down to the casting was super excellent and it was put so much work into. greta gerwig did such an amazing job with that film and im so happy she fought hard for it to finally be out after years of hard work. the actors were all so impressive; margot robbie and america ferrera's performances were outstanding and america's monolougue was so moving. the references, real problems women go through every single day being mentioned and listed in the monolougue mustve been so good to hear acknowledged in the film. ryan gosling perfectly embodying in ken the metaphor for watching men you'd thought you trusted suddenly turning into someone different and scary, expecting for you to be head over heels or indebted to them after the bare minimum, taking away everything barbie had without so much as an apology and yet leaving the responsibility of comforting him to barbie without him once doing the same for her. it was so great to see the problems of many women and how they are mistreated being acknowledged in this film about growing up and having to ditch play, ditch those dolls and your imagination or you're considered childish, change, the patriarchy, etc. seeing problems that men wouldn't understand just validated like that must be so comforting for every woman in the theatre and im jusr so thankful this film came out it was so good i cant stop thinking about it.
