I feel bad for asking but what is polyphony?

So you've got monophony, where one thing is doing a piece of music. You've got harmony where multiple things are doing the same piece of music (or one main piece and the others assisting.) Polyphony is different pieces playing different pieces of music, but those pieces are designed to work together. You'd probably be most familiar with it from baroque music?

Once again, I feel bad for not knowing what that is, but I get what you’re saying. It’s like when a guitar is playing one riff and the bass is playing a different one that compliments it.
