Care-a-lot Academy: Sea Friend Bear

This blog is about one of my favorite Care Bears and one I desperately want (both versions). Sea Friend bear was originally a rare limited edition bear from the 80s along with her partner Forest Friend Bear. She has been a fan favorite for collectors for years and has finally returned this year. You can bet I'll be getting my hands on that bear!

Personality

Sea Friend bear serves a specific purpose: to protect the ocean and the creatures that live in it. Her mission is to raise awareness and encourage people to take action. She is another bear that changed gender. She was originally a male bear but has come back as a girl! 

1980s

In the mid 80s, Care Bears did a fundraising effort with the World Wildlife Fund in the form of two exclusive bears. One of which is the Sea Friend Bear plush which was only available for a limited time in the UK and Australia. This makes it a rare collectors item! She has a wide smile with pointy ends and no lashes. Her belly badge is very cute with a happy sun looking over an ocean wave.

2020s

Today we have a new Sea Friend Bear after 40 years and she's absolutely adorable! She is part of the new eco friendly line of Care Bears (as signaled by the leaf badge on her foot) meaning she is made from recycled materials. She is also an exclusive bear like the original being only available through amazon (she's currently out of stock but I'm checking up on her pretty frequently ;-;). She has a little starfish accessory and a new belly badge. It is a more simplified and bigger version of her old one. She also has a super cute face with her tongue sticking out!

Fun Facts + Conclusion

• She's sometimes called Ocean Friend Bear in official material instead of Sea Friend Bear, especially in Australia. 
• She was shown for the first time in Care Bear official art in 40 years in the announcement of the I Care Bear for Earth Day (he was the first bear in the eco friendly line. I also have him and he's super cute)
