why do people care about what music you listen to so much?

why do people always get so worked up over what music you listen to? "if you listen to this kind of music, you're cringe. if you listen to this other kind of music, you're a poser. if you don't listen to this kind of music, i don't like you." i get it when the artist is super problematic or, for example, a person says that they're goth but doesn't listen to goth music, etc. but when people are receiving hate for no reason other than "you listen to this and i don't like that", that's just stupid.
