guinea pigs and companionship

hiii this entry goes along with 'my guinea pigs and dominance', but im gonna explain more than only dominant behaviour.

guinea pigs are herd animals. if they live alone they will probably get depressed and that entails an early death.

having a couple of guinea pigs is enough company for them, even if they cant live together (two boars that dont get along, unspayed sow and unneutered boar.....) having companionship through a cage is way better than living alone. in fact, it is illegal to own only one guinea pig in switzerland.

if ur thinking of having guinea pigs, it will be easier to get sows. they dont cause dominance problems (unless u get a dickhead piggy LMAO), they will not get pregnant, not even psychological pregnancies.

u can have a sow and a boar, but if u dont want babies, get the boar neutered, it is an easier procedure than spaying the sow. also surgical procedures and anesthesia are kinda dangerous for rodents. the smaller the rodent, the more dangerous it gets, so u better find a good vet with experience.

having two boars is absolutely possible too tho, i myself have two boars and they get along so far (i talk about this on the entry i linked before).

it is easier to bond boars who are two years old or older bc they dont care that much about being the dominant, its more about companionship and eating veggies, so u can adopt older piggies, or even bonded boars.

ill talk about bonding in the near future, it is interesting.
