What the fuck happened while I was gone?

Since I first found this website, I've always romanticized the concept of a social media platform that cares for its users, and isn't a corporatized wasteland. I haven't really made any long term close friends in this site, mainly because back then, I didn't take much opportunity, and over the months, my interest in this site has waned heavily.

I decided to come back this week, and boy oh boy, just like my interest in this site, the innocence of this site has waned heavily, to the point where I'm making a blog talking about it. Look, I know even months ago, when I was browsing spacehey, it was already garbage. When I was just beginning to understand spacehey, I came across an account dedicated to loving someone, and although it was a bit creepy, I feel like there may have been some hint of genuine love for that kid, or it was just a troll account. Nevertheless, I looked further, and the person they loved had a tragic backstory on the internet. Even further, there was even a faked suicide probably just to taunt them emotionally.

As the months went by (while I was still searching spacehey), pedophilia became talked about more and more, and it was starting to reach the front page. Even though these posts reached massive attention, what in gods name happens after that? These posts will be forgotten, virtually no action will be taken, and the pedophile can just resume ruining children.

Nowadays, it feels like I've seen my best friend slowly cut off connections with me, take drugs, and make himself comfortable with evil. What the fuck just happened to spacehey? Now there's like a billion types of toxicity in this platform, all amplified way more than it felt like months ago. The left and right are in an all out war against each other while us spectators give them attention and even comment our stance, there's even more suicide notes, WHAT THE HELL MAN!?!?!!?? Moderators (if there are any) aren't doing jackshit about this, and I understand An is probably not financially doing well, but damn, some people would volunteer to moderate for FREE, I mean, look at reddit (I know that's not the best example, but like it still is one)!

I love spacehey, I love its fundamental concept of preserving and modernizing the social media giant that came before facebook in a faithful and ethical manner. In many accounts, there should have been an amazing and creative community that we could look up to interacting with every day, and who knows? That may have been the early days of spacehey! There definitely still is, but it's drowned out in politics and reports of pedophilia (the latter isn't bad, although I do want more action taken on pedophiles).

I guess the main takeaway here is, enjoy things while they last. Platforms experience a golden age, but every golden age eventually ends. Take advantage of that golden age to the fullest, and look back on it fondly. You can even do this during the dark ages, find light in the neverending void of darkness. If you read this far, thank you for caring about a random essay that I made.
