I've always been a huge fan of a sideseries for pokemon, many of them really. Like pokemon mystery dungeon is undoubtedly the most well known and for good reason, i grew up on Red Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky, and I will always recommend playing them if ever asked.
Though i'm also a fan of the lesser known spin-offs like Pokemon Channel(lost to time), Trozei(replaced by shuffle nowadays), Dash(lost to time), and Conquest(lost to time). I'm just speaking into the void here but absolutely give some of those other spin-offs you're on the fence about a try.
On the topic of Pokémon though, there's also similar games from the ds era i recommend trying that are like pokemon too. Such as Spectrobes, which was made by Disney and has more of an anime flair to it(even having the main character say Iku Ze![Let's go!]), or Fossil Fighters which sadly the 3ds entry to he series probably put a nail in the coffin, as it massively soured the experience for both new and old fans. Even still i heartily recommend both of those series to be given a try too!
In the future, Craftopia might even be a good contender for a pokemon competitor! Who knows! There's tons of indie games coming out nowadays for monster collectors and i love to see it. I just wish the market maker itself would show more love to its side and main series. Maybe we'll get proper remakes one day though, who knows?
Thats enough of my rambling for now. Thanks for reading if you did.
