Baking

I want to get into baking and the dollar tree near my house has some good stuff, are there any other things i need to know before i start? maybe. I wanna make a cake, a three tier chocolate cake with some type of frosting not sure yet. chocolate on chocolate is nasty so i’ll probably pick something like a caramel buttercream frosting.
