As some may know, I love Ice Nine Kills, absolutely adore them, but I feel like I don't talk enough about why I love them so much. Right now I am listening to The Burning, their 2nd album, on CD. It's one of my favorite albums ever made and I'm here to say why.
First off, for their 2nd album, it's amazing. The lyricism is beautiful and honestly hits hard for anyone going through a hard time...specifically a bad relationship passing or happening. It starts off strong with The Greatest Story Ever Told. A classic INK song. Most people know the song for it's second recording on Safe Is Just A Shadow. But the song is so much better in it's original variation. It sounds so much more raw and emotional, really getting you into that emo mood the album is going for. For some time, it was actually their most popular song.
Now let's talk about the vocals. It's mostly a mix of Spencer's harsher vocals and ex-guitarists Jeremy Schwartz's soft vocals. They sound similar while singing together though. But without Jeremy this album wouldn't be as strong. Even though he left the band in 2009, he's very important to the beginnings of the band, but of course...the album...which is what this is about -.-He adds so much more emotion when it comes to how fucking sad he sounds in every song, but with Spencer's depressing vocals it just puts me in such a mood, and I mean that in the best way possible. It just adds to the beauty of this album.
Let's also talk about how all the songs blend together to tell some sort of story. No, it's not an actual storyline within the album, but rather a story of so many failed relationships. Whether it's a relationship between two lovers or the relationship between a child and their father. Each song goes into how these failed and how it effects everyone involved. Each song is just the burning of a relationship.
I'm also a huge fan of the instrumentals of course. I'm obsessed with the bass in literally every song. BUT NOTHING beats the guitar in The Greatest Story Ever Told. I will forever praise that song it's just so good. I swear they put crack into the guitar and drums of that song because it is my most listened to song ever. Everything about this album is beautiful and I need everyone who reads this to listen to it NOW!!!!
I will definitely be writing little things like this about all of their albums and some other albums just cuz I'm autistic about my music.

I WAS JUST LISTENING TO SIJAS???? ur completely right, honestly either sijas or tpbt have to be the best album because it all just feels so AUTHENTIC. dont get me wrong i love the horror movie songs and just horror based stuff in general but youve gotta have that inner emo kid come out and have the emotional songs off of their earlier albums...
