spoilers to IDW TMNT??

I wanna start reading the IDW comics but i'm so nervous because a lot of people say that dont give donnie a break and I mean I saw some part WHERE THEY RIPPED OFF HIS SHELL...LIKE WHAT..like why does every gen of tmnt gotta be hella traumatized like give them a break (@~@)
